National Essay Writing Competition on the Occasion of World Development Information Day 2007

In the occasion of World Development Information Day on October 24^th, 2007, PUYA in cooperation with President University and PT Jababeka, Tbk will organize National Essay Writing Competition. It is also endorsed by The Indonesian International Education Foundation (IIEF), The President Post, British Council, President Research Center, The Jakarta Post, Suara Pembaruan, and State Ministry for Youth and Sport RI.

This National Essay Writing Competition programme will carry global literacy programme to promote students’ awareness of global issues that will focus on global warming, environmentally friendly sustainable development and intercultural and interfaith sensitivities besides support the use of English as universal language by Indonesian Youth.

This programme is targeting high school students in the 11^th and 12^th grade from all over Jakarta. Programme socialization will be executed through the network of President University, State Ministry for Youth and Sport RI and ASP-net/I EARN besides socialization through The President Post,The Jakarta Post and Suara Pembaruan. It is expected to reach around 100 high schools in Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi. With foreseen projection that each high school will send one representative, there will be 100 participating students.

To find its winner, this programme will get trough several steps.

• Selection process to find top 10 of finalists:
  Examiners will carefully review and examine the essay.
• Examiners are experts in education, intercultural and environment from supporting organizations
• Winners Announcement: The winners will be announced during President University
  Open House in February 2008 at President University Main Campus, Cikarang-Bekasi.
  
  

- Theme: “Media’s Role and Impact in the Development of Education through Information, Communication and Technology ”

- Guidelines:

1. Essay must be submitted by anyone up to 20 years old and registered as a student in one of high schools in Indonesia
2. Essay must be 800 words or less, typed or printed in English
3. Essay must have a cover page indicating (1) essay title (2) your name (3) high school name & grade (4) address (5) phone number (6) fax number (7) your e-mail address (8) word count
   Teachers may submit a collection of essays from their class (please enclose a list of participants’ names and the name and contact information of submitting teacher)
4. Entries must be submitted by postal mail or e-mail (please enclosed a copy of your student ID card)
5. Essay must be original and unpublished
6. Essay must be written by one person. Co-authored essays are not accepted
7. Copyright of the essays entered will be assign to the organizers and sponsors
   

- Deadline: Entries must be received by November 14th, 2007

- Awards: the following awards will be given to the winners.

1st Prize: Certificate and prize of Rp3,000,000
Educational voucher from President University of Rp3,000,000

2nd Prize: Certificate and prize of Rp2,000,000
Educational voucher from President University of Rp2,000,000

3rd Prize: Certificate and prize of Rp1,000,000
Educational voucher from President University of Rp1,000,000

Honorable Mention: Certificate and Gift ... 7 Entrants
Educational voucher from President University of Rp500, 000

• 1st place winner’s essay will be published in The Jakarta Post
• 1st place winner will receive 3 months free subscription of Suara Pembaruan, 2nd place winner will receive 2 months free subscription, and 3rd place winner will receive 1 month free subscription
• All top 10 finalists will be announced on October 20, 2007 in the President University's website (http://www.president.ac.id/) or PUYA's blog (http://www.ysa-jakarta.blogspot.com/)
